From Principal's Desk
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of St. Xavier’s High School Howrah,
“AWAKE, ARISE OR BE FOREVER FALLEN” - MILTON
Welcome to the SXH family! I hope you are ready to experience an amazing school year. Our staff is working hard to prepare engaging and rewarding learning experiences for all students. We look forward to seeing our students, and we are excited to get to know our new parents as well. At SXH, we place high value on our partnership with parents, families, and community and we invite you to be an active part of helping students to achieve their full potential.
We believe that each and every student has a gift to share, and we work hard to unlock their highest potential. We have high expectations of our students, and we have high expectations of ourselves to help all SXH students learn and grow into well-rounded citizens and critical thinkers. SXH aims to develop leadership skills, social and emotional skills, and academic skills to prepare students for success not only in middle school but also in high school, career, relationships, and life-long learning.
Our students will be taught to view themselves as learners and to think about what it looks like to be a good learner and thinker. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are as important as content knowledge. According to a recent Department of Labor report, 65% of students will be employed in jobs that do not yet exist, so it will be important for all students to acquire the analytical, evaluative, and creative skills to apply such thinking toward becoming successful in the jobs of the future.
To help your student be successful in school, help them understand what is required of them to be a good learner inside and outside of the classroom. Talk about qualities and learning behaviors such as: taking positive risks, viewing errors as opportunities, working to recover from a mistake, giving and receiving feedback, asking questions, collaborating with peers, setting goals, planning with a purpose, and tracking their own progress.
Students need both high challenge and high support to grow as learners, and we look forward to helping students maximize their growth at SXH. Please be our partners in this work. Let us know how we can help. We look forward to working with families to accomplish great things for our students!
St. Xavier’s High School
“True enjoyment comes from activity of the mind and exercise of the body”
A child steps out of his/her mother’s lap, enters a school, and after 14 years leaves the threshold of the school as a young adult. The school plays an important part as the child paves his/her way towards adulthood. A school is the place where the child develops his/her dreams, imbibes elements from the environment to shape his/her personality, socializes, and learns to conform to the expected behavior and ways of the world.
And here lies the importance of education. Education, in one word, is man-making. It not only unfolds the latent qualities of an individual or helps to embrace knowledge but makes continued endeavors to form character and increases the strength of mind in order to bring oneself from darkness into the light of being human.
Modern world is knowledge-dominated. The pool of knowledge is dynamic, and it is being constantly modified by the ongoing scientific and technological progress. To keep pace with the modern world one needs to adapt to the changing knowledge pool and think in terms of the new developments. While St. Xavier's High School (STXHS) imparts knowledge to its pupils, it also provides an ample scope for the students to think for themselves, develop their own opinions, and even go beyond the classroom. Under the able guidance of our teachers, children learn the values of honesty, kindness, generosity, perseverance, and respect in order to be more responsible, self-disciplined, and able members of the global fraternity..
If you set a goal for yourself, you will get into the habit of taking all the pains necessary to achieve the same. Your sincerity, determination, and positive action will serve as the keys for your success and will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy every second of your life. Thus, STXHS strives on the vision that students make the best use of its infrastructure facilities and opportunities to come out as successful future ready citizens equipped not only with academic excellence but also with values and skills to live a better life.
